don't tell my friends that work there that I did a lot of my work in my room because I found early that I'm distracted by absolutely everything which is to be convenient given that your work is out in front of everybody a lot of it's fabulous it works out very nicely and that's the 1 thing about librarianship is there's there's lots of flavors of librarians their public people and there are technical people and we all have our skills and our weaknesses and I'd like to be around people but because of that when I was studying in high in college I had to be in my room in the drapes drawn so whether they're high school students incoming students or if they've been here while on what a big building the library is it's a very big building it's a very busy building it's a very popular space and we have a lot of different types of study areas there's the big open stuff on the first floor in the second floor their study carols around the windows on the second and third floor there are study carols on the back of the classroom on the first floor and then there's what we like to call the caves which are up on the third floor very top secret study space on the backside of special collections and I tell students that one of the first things you need to do is figure out like I did where do you study best and it may not be the same place as your roommate your partner your teammate your fraternity brother you've got to find out what works for you and there could be some trial and error there but it's important to make sure that your not studying the way your roommate the faculty members say it out loud because you know you don't want to turn something in an MLA when they're expecting the APA that sounds silly but it's a big deal you know every discipline likes it a little bit differently and it's important that you know that onus of responsibility as a college student is on you you know in high school things are different you know the onus of responsibility may be on the teacher it may be on the coach maybe on your parents but once you get to college it's you you know you are the adult your the one in this relationship with the faculty members and the librarians and everyone else people in the dean of students office and you have to initiate that contact how to Indian are you too the honor code and certain because one of the things that usually trips people up is they don't have managed their time while or they get into a pressure situation and that's what leads to somebody making a mistake in that area what strategies and how can people
